I have a public service related background having served 24 years in the Royal Navy, starting in 1976 as an engineer and then as a Petty Officer Physical Training Instructor. I then worked for Devon Fire and Rescue Service for 5 years as their Fairness at Work Advisor. In 2005 I went to work for a charitable organisation, Business in the Community before joining Wolverhampton City PCT in 2007 as Head of Equality and Diversity. In 2013 I was appointed as the Senior Equality Diversity Lead for a leading Mental Health Trust in Birmingham, supporting the workforce element of policy development and implementation and responding to equality issues from both corporate and operational areas. Most recently, I was appointed as a Senior Officer with the Royal College of Nursing in the West Midlands Region. As a direct result of my extensive experience I can deliver a variety of team-based or relationship building workshops or training, including the following:

    • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Training – Understanding of the legislation and business case for diversity. Defining and understanding unconscious bias, Micro-aggression, discrimination and how these can manifest in the work place and create divided teams which can impact on team or individual performance.
    • Eliciting, working and living with values – A workshop with a difference that will bring greater understanding of your values and increased appreciation of the value of others to improve relationships and have challenging conversations.
    • Managing challenging or difficult conversations – Equipping managers with the appropriate skills and emotional intelligence to have challenging conversation and speak to truth without conflict.
    • Team Building Workshops – Understanding team dynamics and moving individual objectives and values into team and organisational values.
